Fume hood is essential laboratory equipment that is designed to prevent users from being exposed to hazardous fumes, vapours and dusts. It is a ventilated, enclosed work space intended to capture, contain, and exhaust harmful or dangerous fumes, vapors, and particulate matter generated by procedures conducted within it. It also called a Fume Cupboard, Chemical Hood or a Lab Hood.
It works by pulling air away from the user into the enclosure with a blower. Equipped HEPA filters to use vents the air to the outdoors through a facility exhaust system.
It is an enclosure with a movable sash window on one side that traps and exhausts gases and particulates either out of the area (through a duct) or back into the room (through air filtration), and is most frequently used in laboratory settings.
